R&E Member Daniel M. Bernstein to Moderate Panel on Office-to-Residential Conversions

Bernstein, will moderate Panel Three at Current Issues in Affordable Housing in New York City, an in-person program taking place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Daniel will moderate the Case Study – Office to Residential Conversions panel from 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. The discussion will focus on how developers, architects, lenders, and New York State and New York City government entities are addressing the challenge of vacant office and other non-residential spaces by converting them into housing, including affordable housing.

The program will provide an inside perspective on the future of affordable housing in New York City, bringing together experienced practitioners from the public and private sectors. Panelists will examine the role of city, state, and federal governments, alongside for-profit developers and not-for-profit organizations, in building and preserving affordable housing, as well as the statutory, regulatory, and business considerations shaping the landscape.
In addition to the Office-to-Residential Conversions case study, the program will feature panels addressing:
- Rent Freezes, the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (HSTPA), and Nonpayment
- The Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA)
