Neil Underberg 1928-2017
Rosenberg & Estis is saddened to announce that Neil Underberg, who joined the firm in 2011 as a Member in the Transactions department, has passed away. He was 88 years old.
Neil, an expert in complex real estate transactions, represented major developers and educational and charitable institutions in New York and nationally in the acquisition and assemblage of property for development projects. He also represented property owners in significant lease negotiations.
Neil was a member of the Association of the Bar of New York, the American Law Institute, and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He was a member of the Cornell University Law Advisory Council and a director of the New York University Real Estate Institute. Neil received a B.A. in Political Science from Syracuse University in 1949 and a J.D. from Cornell University Law School in 1952. He received an LL.M from New York University in 1957.
Neil published numerous scholarly articles in a variety of legal and business publications, including New York Law Journal and the Syracuse Law Journal, and lectured at the Practicing Law Institute and Cornell Law School.
Neil is survived by his wife, Ruth, and two children, Amy Applebaum and her husband David, and James Underberg and his wife Terry. He was an avid boater and greatly enjoyed his time on the water.
