DHCR just issued Advisory Opinion 2020-5 extending the July 31 deadline for filing the 2020 Annual Rent Registrations to September 30, 2020. The extension will provide much needed relief for those owners who have been out of office and unable to gather information required to complete their filing (which includes mailing copies to all rent regulated tenants). Those owners who have been working to complete their filing by Friday, July 31 should still do so. However, those who cannot complete the registrations by the original deadline can now take advantage of the additional two months to complete the required paperwork. Owners who have already completed and filed their 2020 annual registrations do not need to take any further action.
