Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. has again been selected as the Real Estate Litigation Department of the Year: 2020 by The New York Law Journal. This is the second time Rosenberg & Estis has been recognized for this achievement, first winning the award in 2018.

Since 1975, Rosenberg & Estis has handled New York’s most complex real estate issues and represented the industry’s leading developers, lenders, owners and real estate groups, including REBNY and the Rent Stabilization Association. Led by Luise A. Barrack, the litigation department has a reputation for its expertise, tenacity and the breadth of it representation in real estate – from contract disputes, rent regulatory issues to property valuation, landlord-tenant disputes, brokerage and lease disputes and constitutional law.

Rosenberg & Estis has secured several high-profile litigation results this year, permanently impacting the real estate industry, including the New York State Court of Appeals ruling that Part F of the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 may not be applied retroactively to rent overcharge cases. The firm also secured a major court victory against Amazon on behalf of The Durst Organization, obtained a unanimous dismissal of a multi-million-dollar damages claim, won a critical rent overcharge case, and numerous other matters with industry-wide significance.

“The past year has been one of the most pivotal periods in the New York real estate industry, with the passage of HSPTA and the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Michael Lefkowitz, managing member of Rosenberg & Estis. “Rosenberg & Estis has provided a resource for complex problem solving for clients, and it is an honor to be recognized by the legal industry for our work.”
