On March 27, 2020, Gov. Cuomo suspended all New York State construction apart from “essential” or “emergency non-essential” work. Updated guidelines from ESD are linked here.
“Essential” construction includes work on “roads, bridges, transit facilities, utilities, hospitals or health care facilities, affordable housing, and homeless shelters.”
“Emergency non-essential” construction includes projects “necessary to protect health and safety of the occupants, or to continue a project if it would be unsafe to allow to remain undone until it is safe to shut the site.”
Essential or emergency non-essential construction sites that lawfully continue work must operate under the mandate of social distancing practices.
What does this mean for you?
Now, in accordance with Executive Order 202.6, construction sites which are not “essential” or “emergency non-essential” are officially shut down. Construction sites operating in violation of the new rules could face fines of up to $10,000 issued by New York State.
