Joshua Kopelowitz

New York, New York

Joshua Kopelowitz joined Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. in 2007 and is a member with the firm’s award-winning Litigation Department. He is a fierce advocate for his clients, practicing in the area of civil litigation. A substantial part of Mr. Kopelowitz’s practice focuses on representing landlords and developers in negotiations, complex litigations and alternative dispute resolution in an array of areas including commercial/residential leasing, rent regulatory matters, brokerage claims and contracts.

Amid uncertainty following the passage of the HSTPA of 2019, Mr. Kopelowitz has established himself as the go-to resource for owners and investors navigating the changes to the various laws, including, importantly, the rent laws. In addition to representing key real estate players amid these changes, Mr. Kopelowitz regularly educates his clients with in-person HSTPA presentations, where he provides a general overview and summary, the impact on landlords’ day-to-day operations and the impact on NYC’s rental market as a whole. At the end of the day, Mr. Kopelowitz’s number one goal is to ensure his clients are making the most informed and profitable decisions possible.

Mr. Kopelowitz has secured several critical victories at the Appellate Division, Supreme Court and Civil Court on behalf of major commercial clients. He approaches a broad array of lawsuits, appeals and transactions with tenacity and seasoned acumen that provides favorable results for owners, developers and the like. Mr. Kopelowitz’s ability to comprehend complex issues quickly has allowed him to aid his clients in matters both within the real estate sphere and out. He has successfully litigated before the Federal Courts and State Courts,  negotiated valuable air rights, negotiated an adverse possession claim and represented a major developer in a mesothelioma action.
