Daniel Bernstein, Bension DeFunis, Patrick Tierney Join as Real Estate Law Firm Continues to Expand Roster of Legal Experts

The law firm of Rosenberg & Estis, P.C., New York City's largest real estate law firm, announced that Daniel Bernstein, Bension DeFunis, and Patrick Tierney have joined the firm's expanding roster of attorneys within the Administrative, Litigation, and Transactional Law groups respectively.

Bernstein, DeFunis and Tierney join the firm as Of Counsel, adding to what is already New York's largest real estate law firm, further reflecting Rosenberg & Estis's commitment to continued growth and efforts to provide complete legal representation across all aspects of real estate for both current and future clients.

Bernstein brings a wealth of experience in the assessment and taxation of real property in New York, as well as acquisition, financing, leasing, declarations of condominium, and condominium offering plans. He also has extensive experience assisting real estate developers with obtaining economic incentives for their residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects.

Prior to joining Rosenberg & Estis, Bernstein was with Venable LLP, where he represented developers in the generation, sale and purchase of certificates for inclusionary housing development rights and negotiated inclusionary housing regulatory agreements with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. He also focused on applications for eligibility for real property tax exemptions and abatements, including 421-a, ICAP, 420-c, before HPD, New York Department of Finance, and the NYC Department of Small Business Services. Bernstein received his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law after attending Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.

DeFunis joins Rosenberg & Estis after serving as Senior Counsel at Jaffe & Asher LLP, where he worked on complex commercial litigation and managed all stages of litigation and discovery. He represents a broad clientele, from individuals and small businesses, to Fortune 500 companies, in complex commercial and real estate litigation matters in state, federal, and appellate courts. He also represents individuals and entities, in connection with investigations and proceedings brought by various state and federal governmentenforcement agencies. DeFunis received his J.D. from Cornell Law School after attending the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.

Prior to joining Rosenberg & Estis, Tierney was with Bryan Cave LLP, where he served as Counsel. He managed all aspects of a variety of complex commercial real estate transactions in New York and nationwide, including acquisitions and dispositions, borrower-side financing, ground leasing, and leasing. Tierney also drafted and negotiated the purchase and sale agreements, along with all related documents used in acquisitions or dispositions of real property, including office buildings, raw land, hotels, restaurants, residential and mixed use buildings and complexes, shopping centers, and portfolios. Tierney received his J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law after attending George Mason University in Arlington, Va.
